I have obtained a LEGAL copy of 3ds max 6 (www.discreet.com), and here's my first render with it:

looks good, very good

one thing though, I'd get rid of the colors in the reflection, they don't blend in well with the rest of the picture

what was the rendering time on that?

Oh 15 or 20 minutes. Thanks for the suggestions.

sweet work dude, funny enough i havent tried working with any abstract 3d. :P

A suggestion, maybe you can use a little bit more depth of field so to give your image a bit more depth.

looks to me like it's composed in PS or something ;)

Nice morse, real nice :) I on the other hand, wouldn't get rid of the subtle colors, I think it adds to the metallic effect... but that's just me :P

keep the colours!

i really like this pic, it's simple, but has enough interest so that it doesn't end up boring or anything :)

pretty good! is that a hdri render ??

maybe it would need a bit more smoothing as we can still see some of the polys

Say I: Keep the colours, change the background. I think if it were on black, and say... oh, I don't know... glowing, it would look a bit cleaner, as now I think the background is really detracting from the picture.

That aside: Uber Cool!

Good idea coppertop, ill try that.

mlk: hdri?

Eilsoe: The only photoshop is the tad of 2d work :p

Soulty: I actually toned down the depth of field... :beam: Funny how I havent really tried much real modeling... But that's going to change soon!

LMAO....... lol Thats the best HDRI explanation i have ever heard.. :P

... HDRI (or HDR rendering) is when you use a high res panoramic (360 images) images which holds its lights property information in the file, this is used in 3d applications to obtain realistic looking lighting, reflection, shadows.

nice read up here::
