Small Website - Thoughts?

Just a small website for friends to view. :) I would like to here some thoughts.

- Keep in mind that if you think it's so small, it was made to be like that, I made it in one hour so I didn't want to make something huge ;P.

I also submitted it for SOTW, probably won't win cause it's so small and not enough content but what the hey :p:.

I really like the sounds! Where did you get 'em?

As for SOTW, I think.... well, you know. lol

Personally I'd go with a dark brown to light grey gradient (angled) for the background and possibly give the box an outer glow or something.

It's pure vector, I didn't want any outer glows or any gradients. I wanted to work by the decimal pixel point (e.g 10.0). Some sounds are from flashkit, some sounds came from downloadable source files :).

Thanks for telling me the truth anyways about SOTW. If you don't think it's getting in, I know for sure its not then :).

Well Mr. Non-Punk :P, you have a nice site with content. I don't, so I assume you know about sites. So when you put it like my sites not gonna win (by saying "well you know..."), i'm gonna think it's not getting in, simple huh :D.

it's pretty cool. But add some images, maybe in the bg (something that doesnt interfere with the words) since the site is mostly text. And reduce the size, i have some scrolling room that shouldn't be there.

i'm 17....and just got started in flash about..uhh...6 months ago...i haven't worked with it too much...but i know how to create sites and stuff....but fonts just like to be jewish...and...i still need to learn a lot

Anywho, one suggestion, make it so when I'm in the info section, lets say, the info button is disabled. Theres no use in reloading a section thats already up, right? ;)

How many kb was the final file. My minimal is 10k so far. I like it smooth simple i wouldn't cahnge any thing on it really.

i haven't seen it that frequently...just had to quip up about it. I've seen plenty of preloaders with circles...not too many logos...

but any rate...

my only complaint would be the overused squid fingers background... it does look good, but you could probably whip something up with similar colors... you want to avoid using things readily available to everyone who wants them as much as possible. in my opinion anyway.

Hey guys,

Thought this thread would end with like 5 posts! 2 pages of comments! Thanks a lot for the thoughts! I made it in one hour without trying too hard and you guys still like it :). So think about when I get older and am still using flash and take like a month to make a site.

To answer some questions:

1. The final file is like 35 kb, it's all in one file no seperate swfs.

2. The logo is yes in a circle, as a matter of fact, I really don't spend time and kill my creativity on a logo, I come back to it and fix later. I like the logo tho!

3. I'm gonna definetly add images (so clients can know I can do images) and fix some typos, maybe change the logo, and I'll change the background somehow!

i've been thinking about doing a similar site...not as small though...i would like to view your .fla just to see exactly how you did things..kind of pick it apart so i can get an even better understanding of flash, if you don't want to, that's cool too..just whatever

Nice work there Sharif. I wish I were more of a designer than a scripter, so I could finally start to layout my site ... scripting alone won't get me any far. Anyway, nice work dude ! :)

What font is used in the main 'body' text? I've been looking all over for it, and I still can't find it...

I like the site, but it would be even cooler if you made your own background :) - the Squidfingers ones are overused.

Updates and Answers:

- Changed Background
- Fixed Typos
- Added a small drawn character I drew a long time ago
- Lowered the actual size by a couple of kbs
- Logo is still sort of the same (smaller AB tho)
- Fast computer recommended!!!
- Type in afterburn studios or my full name sharif n. karim in google, or yahoo, or whatever and I'm the first one on it!
