Hey everyone,
I have installed a java-based interface for the IRC server, and you can find it here: http://www.kirupaforum.com/forums/chat/index.php The name you will have there is the same name you have on the forums.
I am just curious as to whether all of you are able to access this without any major problems?
Thanks!
Kirupa :cap:

I am not sure if this may be the cause, but you will get a small dialog box asking you if you want to give some java applet permission to install. It's the chat applet, and it's safe....because it wasn't written by me :) It's a open source pjirc applet.
Cheers!

Rev, are you getting the same message from the forums here: http://www.vbulletin.nl/community/chat/index.php ? I just need to know if this is an issue that occurs only on these forums.
reverendflash

nope, that one works...
let me try the one here again...

you know, rev, you could always use regular ol' mIRC; that seemed to work for you in the past.

I'm really not interested in the IRC channel, but I was checking it out for Kirupa.
I am still not fond of IM's... I just don't like the way things end up there. This place is enough of conversation for me. If I desire to speak to someone, I generally give them a call on the telephone.
but yes, you are correct, I could install mIRC on this machine.

digi/claudio/rev - are you all by any chance running a firewall? Also, do you all get a Java pop-up asking you to accept the security of the java applet? Scouring through google, if any of you guys who are getting the error use zone alarm, you may need to disable cookie/adblocker.
It's no real biggie though :) I am just curious as to why these errors are occuring so I can document a solution on the site for others who are having similar issues.

Great idea, but it doesn't work for me:
*** Ident server running on port 113
Connecting...
Unable to connect : jade.va.us.dal.net
Maybe that's because I'm behind a proxy, I'll check that later...

kirupa- I don't think its because of the firewall. I am able to view other java applets, and I don't get the pop up window because I already have the java plug in installed. Also I am able to view other java IRC chats with no problem.

my school does that too. They have the viewing of java applets disabled.

works fine, but would be nicer in a pop-up all by itself to save screen space (xp home, ie6 sp1)
kirupa
January 8th, 2004, 05:50 PM
eyez - that's what I am planning on eventually doing once the initial problems are fixed. There really is no point in taking up the whole screen for just the tiny chat window :}

Ok, after the servers have been switched, let's try this again. Does the Java applet version work now? You can test it out by visiting the following link: http://www.kirupaforum.com/forums/chat/index.php
I think almost everybody is able to connect using mIRC to the new EFNet server.
Thanks!
