I just started on a new project. It's for a wireless telecom dealer.
It's not even 10% complete, (was gonna post it up once it was atleast 50%,) but i wanted to get some advice and comments before i got deep into the project. Mostly all the links don't work yet. I just want to get some opinion about the overall layout..
Please view 1024x768 + [prefer 1280x1024] (i do have a script set up to detect the resolution and forward, but i didn't finish the 800x600 version yet.)

well.. all comments are welcome. thanks.

holy... I forgot the link.. arg..

Hey man, this site is sweet!

Although the elastic squares and liquid fill transition thing in layouts are a bit trendy and overused now, but it still doesn't mean it doesn't look cool.

I was wondering if you knew your "Phones" and "Contact Information" both containt he same title image of the tree and stocking. It wouldn't be so much of a big deal except that in the lower right corner it says "Phones" so it kinda defeats the purpose of "Contact Information".

So far seems pretty straightforward and functional, but since it is only a bit done I can only mainly go by looks.

IŽve done a great job!

Loved the layout division. A bunch of little, but neat effects... Good Site!=)

I know . =) All the title images are basically temporary.. i only set the main title image, plans, and phones. the rest are using the phones image.. like i said.. "5%" =)

Anyways.. thanks for the compliments.

I like Jamie Lee Curtis, as an actress. As far as looks go.... Catherine Zeta Jones takes the cake there.

Now back on topic.... I also like the menu in the lower left corner, when it bounces in.

hey lostinbeta.. i was browsing through your site.. I really like it..
how did you do all those effects in HTML?? (like when you click the link, the bottom content slides in and out like that).. wow..
i've never seen that before..

Yeah, all my site versions are experiments.

An earlier version of my site was an Image Map version.

This version is my experiment with DHTML (which I dabble in, but completely suck at) using the Javascript scrollTo(x,y) method.

My next version will be my first PHP site, so it is a PHP experiment.

And sometime in the future a Flash experiment version?!?!? (maybe, we will see).

Thanks for the compliment though :) :beam:

I doubt my flash page would be nice ;) (not too good at designing in Flash for some reason).

Hmm, maybe ol' Billy put in so much time working on his next version that he forgot to pay the annual fee for his domain and hosting :o :beam:

Design is design.. if you know how to design, no matter what platform -it'll come out right. I'm sure it'll be nice, we won't know until you try..won't we?

billy's new version was supposed to come out way back..maybe he did forget to pay..=)

(i'm still waiting for xdude's new version to come out.. it was supposed to come out waaaaaay back .. I think it's been couple of years.. And i truly think it'll never come out.. )heh

lostinbeta
January 13th, 2003, 05:16 PM
Yeah, I know Billys second version was supposed to come out early last year, then he changed the date, and kept changing it, and here it is early 2003 and still nada. Over a year man.

Who is xdude? What is his site?

umm. any other comments and suggestions?. I would like to know of any ideas that'll help me improve the site..

Also, i'm gonna start working on a ecommerce section of the site..
as of now it's gonna be in HTML.. But i'm wondering, what's the best way to develop a shopping cart system?..(should i buy the software?[if yes, anyone know some good shopping cart softwares?] , or should i just develop it myself? , what is the best language to build a secure shopping cart system? [does anyone know of some good tutorials in doing this?] )
( i really want to build it in flash, but i have no clue how..
check this out.. http://running.nike.com/nikerunning/
I want to develop it like how it's done at that site.. It's mostly all done in flash, except the checkout part.. )

If anyone has any kind of knowledge in E-Commerce , i would appreciate it if you can help me somehow..

thanks in advance..

Wow I can't believe I missed this thread. :!:

enyceexgloboi, you did an awesome job on this site! It's very clean, organized and the transitions are smooth. It's pretty obvious that you put in a lot of work cause there is a lot of detail I see.

I can't really think of anything to add to what has already been said so you're on the right track. Normally I'm really picky about sites, but this one is awesome.

It sorta reminds me of Fantasy Interfaces site as in how clean everything is layed out, but still an awesome job. Keep it up. :beam:

Very nice work. Trendy but nice. I'm curently building a trendy site just for fun. I loved how smooth the animation was. Some slower users my never find that roll over menu at the bottom but you can't build for everybody. Loved what you have so far. If this is only 5% I can't wait to see 100%

R U building you shopping cart in ASP?? I did one that came out pretty cool. I am currently working on one .net just for the practice. If you are looking for a out of box one www.storefront.net is great I have used it for a few of my clients. ASP driven. But you need dreamweaver for it. It is like a component but it is very cool....Dont buy v6 if you do buy v5. Version 6 they make you pay for each store as you publish it....In v5 you can make as many as you want. I can help u out from time to time if you wanna build your own in ASP.

enyceexgloboi
January 14th, 2003, 05:51 PM
hmm.. i dunno ASP.. =(
Do you think it's better to develop it in ASP? rather than PHP.?
i guess i should buy a book =)
Lemme check that program out.. thanks alot 3d-iva
I just may ask you for help in the future. :P

I prefer ASP considering I dont PHP :hair: But I have seen some cool stuff in PHP Yeah that program saved my biscuits on one project now I whip it out whenever I need a quick e-commerce solution.

January 14th, 2003, 06:03 PM
yeah.., it seems pretty neat. i think imma give it a try..=)

by the way.. what other programs may i need?..
this is my first e-commerce.. Does the program automatically do all the taxes, shipping and etc?..
Let's say, for credit card transactions/validation.. How would i get that done?..

January 14th, 2003, 06:08 PM
Yeah it does everything for you it is real amazing. But you will need a backend to actually conduct the transfer. Unless you have the $$$$$ for SSL. I tell my clients to use like wells fargo (bank). The you can send the actual transfer of cash to them and it is secure and insured. There is alot of fraud out there b safe when doing these things. Look up e-commerce laws in your area too.

enyceexgloboi
January 14th, 2003, 06:14 PM
thanks for the advice 3d-iva. This whole e-commerce thing is pretty confusing.. hm.. do you know of any sites that can give me more detailed information on how everything should be setup??.. (like a tutorial or something..)

DDD
January 14th, 2003, 06:36 PM
you can try www.paypal.com they have free services to take secure money. You could do the whole thing with out security with this software if you wanted to. It comes with tutorials.

Yes I agree with Electro about how your site looks like a FI site I have seen. But great work nonetheless. I like FI's kinda style. Really smooth.

enyceexgloboi
January 15th, 2003, 01:01 AM
hmm.. really?.. The funny thing is, I never meant it to look like FI..Truthfully I don't really see much resemblence at all. I just wanted to make it nice/simple/clean..

Oh well, since you're not camparing it to a bad site...- i have no complaints. heh :P

I am not saying your site is bad at all. I like Fantesy interfaces more than any other kind of site. I gave you a compliment. But here is what I was talking about.

I have to agree there are some similarities between the 2 sites. The rolling boxes, spring action, and liquid fades mostly.
