A friend of mine told me they were planning to remake FF7 on GameCube with all new graphics and such. Like what they did with Resident Evil 1.

As far as I know this is just a rumour, but whatever that image is for it looks pretty darn incredible.

I'd love it if they remade VII as a movie, I really would...

It is going to be a movie. Here is the article:

Details are scarce, but the movie will be done in computer graphics similar to Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. Taking place two years since we left Cloud and company, evil is afoot once again. Confirmed for now is the apperance of everyone's favorite spiky-haired hero with the big sword, plus the return of his nemesis: a certain presumably deceased white haired man who walks softly while carrying a really, really long sword....

Interesting.... I wonder who else will be in it other than Cloud and Sephiroth.

Although I must say, with my love of FF7 I would hope the character design and character voices are well done and matched, otherwise that kind of destroys it :-\ I don't want to picture Cloud with a powerful voice in my head and end up seeing the movie and hearing him with a high pitched whiney voice.

What else can I say but "Aiiiieeeeee!" :beam:

I've been wanting a movie of FFVII for so long, and now they're going to do it? :) I hope all the original characters are in there... Well I suppose everyone except Aeris since she never made it past Disc 1. But Vincent, Cid, all the guys...

I'm with you on the voices though, Lost. I've kind of got them all in my head,so I hope they pick the 'right' people to do the VO. Though of course, in my head they all sound English. :P

Supree, if you would have read the whooe thread you should have realized that was already revealed to us from the acticle thoriphes posted.

He was most likely talking about a whole different project. I thought I heard something about the remake of FFVII on GC also.

Either that or lost and I both smoked crack that night. :P

lostinbeta

Yeah the FF7 remake for GC was a whole different project I heard rumours on. It is like what they did with Resident Evil 1, they remade the whole game with all new graphics and a few new things in the game and they spiffied it all up. I am hearing they are planning the same with FF7, and if so I would have to punch myself for not having a GC. So despite how much I would love to see this, if it will only be a GC release I must say I hope this rumour is false ;) (only because I don't own GC, not because I have anything against GC, because I don't.. it rocks)

sorry for saying GC so much.

I have Final Fantasy Anthology, which is a a collection of all the pre-playstation Final Fantasy games, I still haven't played it yet because I am in the middle of Final Fantasy X.

And I also have Chrono Cross, which I still haven't beat yet either.

I just realized I have a lot of gameplay ahead of me :hangover: But it's Final Fantasy and Chrono Cross so it's worth it!

thoriphes

definitely. I remember playing CC through about 3 times. After the first time you beat it, you can start your game up with most of the weapons you had at the time you beat the game and also have all the characters you collected from before. This makes beating the game successive times a lot easier.

I don't know if I can shed any new light on this, but uh, there's no FFVII remakes in the works.

the movie is 60 mins. etc, and the japanese are releasing it on DVD only, but as an ASO or something, which basically means "Too good for the theatre, and too good for TV."

Or it means Square Pictures went broke and they're scared. Either or.

Also, there's a site with a few dozen pictures... lol

Only 60 minutes?!?!?! Well that kinda blows.

VERY nice screens though.... jaw dropping. Although Sephy looks a bit femanine IMO :( He's my favorite character so he better be better in the actual movie :bad:

Aislin
September 30th, 2003, 02:06 AM
Yes, only 60 mins.

Also, lots more screeny's right here.

http://www.webpost.net/ad/adventchild/ren/snapshots.htm

I personally am disappointed with the graphics.

Not to the point where I'll go 'This sucks' because they are obviously very good, but what I'd have wanted out of this was a jump.

Imagine the jump in graphics between FFVII and FFVIII.

(I think FFVIII's graphics are still up to snuff with most 2003 games, personally, and this is pretty sad, because it's like, what, 5 years old now?)

Now imagine if that jump could be made between FF:TSW and FFVII:AC.

That would be not only jawdropping, you'd probably lose your jaw somewhere. A week ago. ...On fire. ... With uranium.

I dunno. Maybe that was a bit too hopeful.

I mean, it was.

lostinbeta
September 30th, 2003, 02:10 AM
Woah, I just saw the teaser video from that site... I can't say as I am displeased with the graphics. FF:TSW type graphics would be better, but this is the kind of dark moody graphics I like.

Aislin
September 30th, 2003, 02:12 AM
What I meant was an improvement over TSW's, an equivelant improvement as the one that FFVIII made over FFVII.

lostinbeta
September 30th, 2003, 02:16 AM
Yeah but Square Pictures went bankrupt with TSW, so creating graphics nearly as good let alone better is quite a doubtful jump.

Final Fantasy VII: -Advent Children- cannot be directly elaborated. Not even Square-Enix is able to completely explain what it is, since it is not a videogame, nor is it a movie. It is being referred to as a 'New Entertainment' at the Tokyo Game Show, which is where it is being showcased, and therefore we cannot say for sure what it is. The item itself is labeled as a DVD-VIDEO, and will not be released in theaters for three reasons. That quote is hilariously confusing.

thoriphes
September 30th, 2003, 02:38 AM

Kitiara
September 30th, 2003, 05:57 AM
It's suposed to be suitably ambiguous as to lure you into buying the DVD. Which I'll probably do regardless. :)

Sephiroth does look a bit feminine I agree... But Cloud looks pretty cool. :)

StylingPaT
September 30th, 2003, 07:48 AM

Aislin
September 30th, 2003, 12:28 PM
I always thought of Sephiroth as a bit feminine, in the most angelic, non-awesomeness-compromising way.

Like a fallen angel. Yeah

Kitiara
September 30th, 2003, 01:02 PM
This is true.. He's generally drawn as slightly feminine in a lot of doujinshi. :sure:

thoriphes
September 30th, 2003, 02:04 PM
That Sephiroth in those CGs look a little like Seymour from FFX.

In any case, I still think Sephiroth was the greatest arch-enemy of all time.

Aislin
September 30th, 2003, 04:37 PM
I would disagree with you (because of my fervorous love for FFVIII) but then, there were like 3 dozen bad guys in FFVIII.

Seifer was pretty cool, nonetheless.

But even though I love the One-Winged Angel, the theme got boring, fighting that last battle took a very long time. And I don't mean, an hour or something. I mean several dozen tries and then I quit for a few months before i finally beat him for the last time. It made me have a grudge.

I have this /thing/ about going around and leveling. I tend to.... uhm... not do it.

To tag on more to my senseless post of crap: Kingdom Hearts eclipsed my brain with nostalgia and I played it for a dozen or so hours straight. I loved fighting Sephy at the colliseum.

Kitiara
September 30th, 2003, 05:00 PM
Seifer is definitely cool (might draw a pic of him soon actually), but Sephiroth was just the best.

I've done some thinking about this (probably waaay too much thinking in fact) and I reckon it's because although he's the main villain, he's still being controlled by Jenova, so you do feel kinda sorry for him in a way... He's evil, but it's not his fault he turned out that way. And...

Er...

I'll get me coat. :P

Aislin
September 30th, 2003, 05:14 PM
Did you ever hear about the Cloud's 'jenova-cell-brother' Zack theory thing? That really interested me. All the pieces fit together, despite the fact that there were very few pieces... but still.

I'll try and find it and post it here, it's been too long to quote it, I know I'll make half a dozen mistakes.

Aislin
September 30th, 2003, 05:35 PM
Alrighty. After looking over this piece of plot, I believe it could be the key to the 'mystery' character in FFVII AC. It's just as likely not, but it's an entertaining notion.

Zack is the silver haired guy. Zack, Cloud's buddy who was shot 'dead.'

Read this to refresh your memory and find out some stuff you probably didn't notice:

This is the most in depth rumor yet that I have seen, I have fun reading through this and looking at the good points.

As we all know, Zack is the close, almost too close friend of Cloud. They fought side by side for some time, and when they were both injected with Jenova cells, they had an inhuman bondage. If one died then so would the other. As they were traveling back home to Midgar, Zack stated that he would not go back to his parents no matter what. Unfortunately, after he said that they were both found by Shinra, and considered spies, so Zack was shot, plain as day. Cloud got away without Shinra's detection. OK, we all know how powerful Jenova is. And then imagine a measly MP firing his gun at her. Chances are he wouldn't last long. So therefore, a few measly gunshots wouldn't kill Zack.

Seeing something? Cloud comes back and mourns over Zack's "death" then takes his sword and fills out Zack's dream: to become a mercenary. About three years later, the game starts off. After a while, you stumble upon Aeris, and the sector 7 slums. In the slums, you meet a guy who lives in a pipe who is dreadfully sick (which is probably effects of Jenova). Aeris wants Cloud to help her. If you look closely enough, you can see spiky black hair sticking out from under his rags, which of course is the color of Zack's hair. As you will soon find in the game later on, Cloud gets dreadfully sick also, by means of Mako poisoning according to the doctors, but it was really an effect of Jenova. Getting it?

OK, now we also know that the Reunion would attract all things bonded by Jenova or Sephiroth. Cloud is attracted, and so is Zack. You are probably thinking, "but you never saw him in the crater!" Guess what? If you go back to Midgar, right back to the sector 7 slums, check the pipe. Nobody is there. And if you talk to the right person in town, he will tell you that the guy who lived there stumbled out a while back muttering "reunion....reunion." Why would there be all this plot developing for no reason?!

Edit: It's perfectly reasonable to assume his hair has changed color, in case you're already calling me insane. I mean, he was dying.

lostinbeta
September 30th, 2003, 05:42 PM
There are a ton of rumours about that sick guy in the pipe. I don't think there is enough evidence to show he was Zack (however the hidden movie in FF7 that showed Zack was quite incredible).

I remember hearing rumours that they were going to have the ability to revive Aeris and the guy in the pipe was part of the way to do it, or that if you cure him you get something special (if they kept that in the game that is).

Among many rumours I don't really know what to believe because weren't these infected people all over the game? (been a few years since I played).

Your theory makes sense, but unfortunately that is all it is, a theory. Maybe this movie will clear things up though ;) ;)

Kitiara
September 30th, 2003, 06:11 PM
Cool theories... I also heard that the guy in the pipe was part of an Aeris resurrection thing, but never saw it proven. To throw another one into the debate...

Who's Sephiroth's father? Is it Hojo? Or is it Vincent? :)

Aislin
September 30th, 2003, 06:16 PM
I never believed any of this reviving aeries stuff, though it would have been cool.

The pipe-man, I am certain (to myself) is Zack. I never thought he'd be playable or anything.

Just the possibility of it being him was enough to get me excited, as many FFVII fans do because of tiny things.

If it did turn out to be him, I'd be veryvery happy.

And the Father thing. ...I have no idea. I WILL say that Vincent is cool, though. ;)

lostinbeta
September 30th, 2003, 06:16 PM
You know what always annoyed me.....

What the heck are the 1/35 Soldiers?

According to the ingame description it is..
Shinra armored attack soldiers: 12 in a set! and
Collect them all to get a... But WTF ARE THEY!?!?!?! WHAT DO THEY DO!?!?!?!

I heard (more rumours) that if you collected all 12 (which I did) you could go somewhere and exchange them for Sephiroths sword. Then I heard more rumours that you could use them to get a Sephiroth clone on your team. I doubt any of these, but it still buggers me as to what these little things do. You can't use them for anything!

Adding to this you also get a Masamune Blade (copy of Sephiroths sword) in your inventory, but you can't use that for anything either. What the heck is this for then?

Does anyone else think they removed some important stuff, but left behind some evidence?

Aislin
September 30th, 2003, 06:28 PM
There has never been a proven event on collecting all of them. They're really for real useless. :)

I heard a rumor where you got instantly zipped to Sephy with maxed everything and lvl99. LoL.

That game has a number of loose ends, and if FFVII AC patches us the best RPG ever, well, .....who cares, I need to save up a few extra bucks and import that **** movie. And a japanese person to translate it for me. ...This is already more expensive than I planned.

edit: This never hapenned to me, and I wish it had, cause it would be wicked.

Any character's hit points, when reduced to 7777 get's the "All Lucky 7's" option under their attack. Your character will just go buck wild and starts attacking the enemy with many hits at 7777 damage each time. The one downside though to this is that at the end of battle your HP is reduced to 1.

lostinbeta
September 30th, 2003, 06:38 PM
I've heard about the Lucky 7s thing before, it does sound great.

I've gotten more than 12 1/35 soldiers, that is why I was wondering what the heck they did. I swear it was something they had in there, but removed and didn't feel like taking out all te 1/35 soldiers out of the game so they leave us with this.

And the Masamune blade, you can't do anything with that, but you can get it... WHY!?!?!?!

And you can still get Aeris' final limit break.... WHY!?!?!?!

There are so many things in that game that just leave you wondering. I still think they had some major things in there that they decided to remove but it was too difficult to remove some parts without modifying the entire game so they left them in there.

lostinbeta
September 30th, 2003, 06:50 PM
Oh yeah, and aren't there items called Tissues that you can't use for anything, but get anyway? What's up with those!?!?!?!

Bringing up all this stuff, i'm really starting to wonder what this stuff was put in for!

Aislin
September 30th, 2003, 06:51 PM
You're probably right. It was likely insanely hard to make a game that huge with the technology available. Groundbreaking awesomeness, and then FFVIII was some more groundbreaking awesomeness. Now they're not really progressing, but who cares? Square is still years ahead of most other game companies anyway.

I'd still like to see another leap, of course. I hope that FFXII holds that.

Too bad I sold my PS2 for Xbox money. There's no question which is the better console at this point in time, but when FFXII comes out I'll end up having to rent a PS2 from blockbuster and //power// through that game.

Kitiara
September 30th, 2003, 07:38 PM
Right... It is theoretically possible for you to get Aeris' Final Limit Break before the end of Disc One when she.. er.. Can't use it anymore. ;) You have to get her up to a high enough level to use it LB wise, obviously, but if you use the buggy you can get it and she can learn it before she kicks the bucket. :)

Lucky 7's is true, I've done that. :) You can do it by arranging Materia and stuff so that the HP total 7777... I've only ever been able to do it with Barret though, never anyone else, so it might be limited. Not sure. :)

Apparently you can throw tissues at bosses and it damages them, but I'm not sure about this one. Never tried it and it sounds dodgy. :sure:

Masamune and the Soldiers.. I think those are just collectables, they don't serve any purpose. Not that I could see anyway. :)

Aislin
September 30th, 2003, 07:42 PM
Well, if you're using the buggy (what? is that gameshark, maybe?) then you can just get her in your party after she dies anywho. And seph, on the PC, for that matter. :)

I've never heard about the tissue thing, but should I ever play again (maybe when it comes out on PSP, heheh,) I'll try to remember to test that out. :)

Which reminds me, I can't wait for PSP. (PlayStation Portable, gameboy's soon-to-be-competitor, for those who don't know.)

lostinbeta
September 30th, 2003, 07:43 PM
Kit: Can you collect the items you need to get her final limit break before the end of disc 1? Don't you need a certain number of Mythril or something, which you collect later in the game.

As for the tissues, never tried it, but I still don't think that's what they are really for.

And why just collectables? What is the point of it? To take up space in your inventory? Theres just gotta be some use for them whether it was taken out or not.

Kitiara
September 30th, 2003, 07:47 PM
Yes, I think it is possible, if you everything in a certain order and do certain things... I can't for the life of me remember what they are or the order, but I worked it out once and I'm 99% certain you can do it if you're clever...

Beats me, I never tried that either. Just heard another rumour... :)

Well there is the rumour that a lot of stuff was cut from the release, like the Aeris revival bit. There was something I read about when you go back into Midgar on Disc 3, if you go into the Church you can see a 'ghost' of Aeris - code bug or something. She lasts for about a second then vanishes. Never checked that out either though. :)

I think it may just be for people to go "yeah, I got everything ever, in the game, imaginable". :P

lostinbeta
September 30th, 2003, 07:52 PM
The Aeris Revival I think, although intriguing, is false no matter what. Since her fate is an integral part of the game that adding her revival in any version of the game would pretty much change the entire story of the game, and it would require you play a whole new way. You can get Sephy and/or Aeris on your team though, you just need a gameshark.

As for the Aeris ghost, that is true, i've seen it. You go into the church and walk to up the flowers, when you get there she appears in the middle of the flower bed and is messing with the flowers. Then she stands up and looks at you, then flickers and vanishes. Nothing happens after that, no matter if you leave of return, it won't happen again.

Aislin
September 30th, 2003, 07:59 PM
I remember that ghost thing too. To me it just adds realism to the game, but apparently some people took it as a hint of some sort.

Although I think it's very likely that there were uses for the soldiers and tissues and masamune, it's possible they were just collectibles for the sake of realism. I collect things. If someone I knew was killed, I'd probably imagine them in familiar places, etc.

Very very very good game. Again. :D

lostinbeta
September 30th, 2003, 08:03 PM
I don't think Aeris' ghost is a sign of anything, I just think it was a neat hidden extra. I don't even think it was a ghost, I think it was more of a memory of when Cloud and Aeris first met.

:a: um...no. You don't need to get her to level 70 in order to get it. Here's how it worked for everyone ('cept Vincent and I think Caith Sith):

To get....
Level 1b (the second break): Use Level 1a 10 or so times.
Level 2a (first lvl 2 break): Kill x number of enemies (forgot exact number).
Level 2b: Use lvl 2a 8 or so times.
Level 3a: Kill x number of enemies
Level 3b: Use lvl 3a 6 or so times.
Level 4: Scout around for it, it's a "learning" item ;). but you have to have learned all the previous breaks before using it.

That's all you had to do with Aeris and the others. No need to get to a certain level.

Yeah, Cait Sith could only inherit limit breaks depending on his bugle, or whatever, and then Vincent was just... Vincent...lol.

Booyaka: Yeah you are just crazy, well maybe not crazy, but you listened to one of those rumours we were talking about. Combining 99 1/35 soldiers and the tissues and the masamune blade was the biggest rumour to make a sephiroth clone. Of course this was proven false (even by myself, yes, I wasted my time to figure it out) It was supposed to be something like you get these and you take them to the guy in the pipe (yet another rumour for this guy... whos number was a mysterious 2) and he would give you the Sephiroth clone. Some variations of this rumour say he gives you an option of a Sephiroth clone or the revival of Aeris. Either way it is false.

thoriphes

Sephiroth clone?

I believe that's not entirely fake. Wasn't Cloud a clone of Sephiroth (or something along those lines)?

lostinbeta
September 30th, 2003, 11:57 PM
Sephiroth clone as in... YAY SEPHIROTH IS IN MY PARTY!

The only possible hidden characters are Yuffie and Vincent, but people don't seem to want to accept that. They still think you can get Aeris back (which destroys the whole story since her fate is a major part of it) and they still think you can get Sephiroth in your party. As for the Sephiroth thing, after people finally realized that he is the enemy and the final boss that rumour quickly changed to include the word "clone" in there. Coincidence? I don't think so. The only way to get these guys in your party is with a GameShark.

Work now? (You will of course have to copy and paste)

You might want to look into this problem though, I can only assume it is your system since no one else has had this complaint and I myself have used the Blue style (since it is the default style and for a long time was the only style option for the forum) and never had a problem with links.

I know, I just noticed the images weren't showing up. But the situation in this case is that for some reason the link itself wasn't even showing in the posts for him, which is quite odd. It didn't work until I chose not to auto-parse the URL so it would be written in plain text.

I got hold of this one last night, so I know the fileshack worked then... Otherwise I'll just upload it to my site and people can take it from there. :)

It's pretty cool, isn't it? :) I'm dead curious as to who these new characters are, plus how many people made it from the game. The CG of Sephiroth walking into the flames was just too sweet...

thoriphes
October 14th, 2003, 12:10 PM
Well, I say that because you know how the Lifestream thingy worked. You kill one person, his stream gives life to another being. So what I hypothesized was that that's what happened with Sephy, only he retained his original self and apprenticed this random dude who you see fighting Cloud.

Anyway, it's gonna be a killer movie.

Some more updates out there about who's featuring. :) Have a look at this: http://ff7-2.com/image.php?img=images/scans/scan_translated2.jpg. It's quite a big picture (it's a magazine scan), but it shows some pictures and gives a few snippets of information.

Some new characters by the looks of it, including what looks like Vincent (hurrah!) and Barret. Plus a weird new guy that no-one seems to know.

In the latest GameInformer, they have more info and screens (one shows barret, with a very cyborg-looking arm, with a fully working fist...wierd), they say that it takes place 2 years after the game, and Cloud is investigating the strange appearence of several Sephiroth looking people (clones?), also, something about a Planetary Scar Syndrome, which is causing the planet to suffer (again). Only saw 3 screenshots though, the one of barret, an obscured Cloud looking at something, and the SisterRay, all covered in rust, and plantlife. Cannot wait for it. :beam:

http://www.adventchildren.net/ff7ac/movie/images/char-vincent.jpg

Schweeeeet....
Don't really like Barret's Arm... it looks kind of wierd...
It looks almost like parts of it are going to be like a flashback type thing, since the Aeris pic above looks like the part in the game when they return her to the planet (trying not to spoil for those few heathens still in the dark... :beam:)
But then again, who knows at this point..?
They'd better make an English version, I still havent heard for sure that they are... I think if they don't, there will be a revolt... and I have a feeling Kit would have a place in the front lines, waving a sign that says: "We want Vincent!".... he he... :beam:

thoriphes

I'm sure they'd make an English translation though, if only because the Ameican market for Final Fantasy is just as huge as the Japanese. And if there's an American version, then I'll understand it and be able to watch it. :)

Barret looks different to how I expected (should have cast Mr T :P ), but kinda cool.

Sephiroth is looking a little more feminine than I had thought, but he still seems so evil which is great. The whole bit in the trailer of him walking into the flames is just fantastic. :)

Cloud.. I guess they must have had a hard time translating that hair into this style. :P

But you see what I mean about the pic of Vincent(?) though - it does look like him... :beam:

I, personally, prefer Subs, but I'd prefer they release it in DVD form, with the option for Original Sound Version, with Subs, or Dubbed, so that you can share it with people who can't (or don't like to) read while watching a movie.

But you see what I mean about the pic of Vincent(?) though - it does look like him...
It does kinda look like him, but it's too dark, and blurry to tell... it could be a Clone, but I'd like to think it was Mr. Valentine.
Hey, Kit, have you seen my Tutorial in the Game/AI Programming Forum? I'd post the link, but they got IE locked down here at work, no tool-bars, no right-click... :( I've been working on it off and on like crazy.

I'm tempted to do that too. OK so I won't be able to understand the dialogue, but you should be able to work out what's going on from the animation.

I wonder if the characters will sound like we expect them to? :)

Actually, he killed himself. You just wound him, and then, after realizing that his daughter still lives, he is sorry for his life of muder, and feels like he is unworthy to ever see her again, and jumps into that pit thing.
