Can someone write a tutorial on how to make a realistic candycane?
Something maybe that looks like one of these?

I know it will probably be a harder tutorial to write, but I think we need some more advanced tutorials on Kirupa, plus I need a candycane :P

dont worry, its a lame one. its basically:
make diagonal lines
make a cane selection
crop out the lines in the cane slection
add bevel

ahhh i see how i can do it, but it'll take a while so im not going to try...
tip: use the pen tool to create the initial outline, then make the stripes with the pentool/polygonal lasso (because they arent just straight lines, but polygons, if you look at the pic) then select the thing, contract selection a bit and all untill you get very slim lines, delete the stick portion of the selection and fill with white, reduce opacity, and it should be pretty good.
