What would you get with a $50 GC at Amazon.com?

the Cuircut City near me was giving things away free with mail-in rebate... dvds, cameras, video games...

I wouldn't waste my $50 certificate on a DVD player...

Look for a huge sound system and use it towards that. Hey, some smaller 5.1 surround sound systems are only around $100 - perhaps you can find something good for the same price.

Then you can just go to Wal-Mart and pick up a $23 doallar DVD player. Sure it's not fancy, but it plays DVDs just the same.

Or I'd put it towards Family Guy DVDs....
