To create a mask, you must first open up your project in Flash. You probably have some sort of image that you want to mask.
To do this, you must first create a new layer that is on top of the layer you want to mask. (so the layer that you want to appear, as the mask floats over it, needs to be on the bottom, with another layer on top of it.)
Layer 1: Blank Layer (or whatever you want to be seen on top)
Layer 2: The layer that will appear as the mask floats over it.
Then you need to create a new layer, that goes on top. This is your mask layer. To create a mask layer, create a new graphic. In the properties of the graphic, select "mask." Then add the graphic to your stage on the top layer. (::Note:: Usually mask layers are some sort of shape. You can make them what ever color you want, because you won't see the color. . it is a mask.)
Layer 1: Mask
Layer 2: Blank Layer (or whatever you want to be seen on top)
Layer 3: The layer that will appear as the mask floats over it.
If you have the properties selected right on the mask layer, then when you add some motion to your mask layer, and play your movie, you will see some cool effects.

I had the same problem with the tutorial....
Dont know why. The mask used to be strange.
The trick is not to make the animation inside a movie clip.
