I learned flash, by experimenting, and help from kirupa tech's.

Learnt back from v2 i think.

Back then there was no actionscript sothings were more basic.

Then when AS came along v4, Did basic movement and controlling timelines and movie clips and the rest from thinking of a challenge and putting down the logic to achieve it

Laslett:

You've been doin' Flash since you were 13? wow, that's impressive. I think you are the only other member I know of who used v2.

@topic:

if the tuts here on kirupa are too tough for you, try the help files. They really do a lot to get you started.

as a recent beginner, the best way is going into the flash program and view the tutorials that come with the actual program.
and as they are taking their way through it you stop and replicate exactly what you saw. Practice and imitation are the best way. Then when you really don't understand why or how something works use a specific tutorial and/or write the question in.

It came out in about 1997 bought from FutureWave.

A little bit of old school huh

i think I still have it somewhere. How much would an original Flash 2 go for?

I wanted to learn Flash for quite a while, probably when version 4 was out...

I did the tutorials that came with 5, then I re-did them in 6 cos I forgot half of it...

And I got a Compter arts Special that covered Flash MX on cartoon/character animation, that really helped me get into it more!

I bought some books, and was reading them during the summer... Now its all sunk in better and I have a more rounded understanding of Flash - something that can be a bit patchey if you just look at online tutorials.

Problem is, now we're using Flash as uni, I'm one of the only ones that knows it, so I spend most of my lesson time helping others out (and they have 5 at uni, its painful using it... I bought Flash MX 2004... don't like going backwards)

It took a while for it to sink in for me... and I've done barely any actionscript. But I want to learn Flash for character animation... Now I want to learn more actionscript to make my cartoons more interactive though.

Kirupa tutorials are good, but I didn't know about this site when I was first learning. So you have a head start!
