I am looking for a host and I see a lot of people use Media Temple. Will some please let me know why? I mean does it have some more advanced things like PHP support and tech support? I mean almost EVERY good flash site uses them. WHY?

just cause they are fast and reliable. i use dr2.net (www.dr2.net) and they are just as good and smaller, and cheaper, just dont have the same name.

i use dr2 as well :) it's the best hosting ever. Especially the fact that you can host unlimited add-on domains, makes it so easy to control all your sites ;)

But MT is a proven company and has a great server for Flash.
TNT doesn't have 24/7 human monitoring and just isn't as stable as a big company like MT.

1) "Great server for Flash". Flash can be hosted on anything from Tripod to the biggest 100,000 terrabyte server in the world with 9999GHz CPU.
2) TNT DOES have 24/7 human monitoring. TNT IS stable, and since when do "big companies" care about you.

It does not I know it's just a datacenter with an alarm.
Where do you get that big company's don't "care" about you? MT has 24/7 support, 24/7 Phone support and a HUGE knowledge database, where in there says "big company's care about you"?

It's not about quality of service. It's more like noname clothes made in Sri-Lanka vs. hot couture like Versace or Armani

Datapimp, please learn the facts before posting inaccurate things like that. Back when I was considering you as a potential client, I said the datacenter has 24/7 monitoring, 24/7 admins on duty, a sophisticated security system, and ALARMS to notify if even one server goes down.
This is a major server, not some little thing run out of a minor DC.
They care about driving BMWs, so they wont provide any additional support other than their service. We provide any kind of support you would ever need for anything about your website.
If you want to keep slandering me and TNTPowerHost, do it in an IM.

they all have monorting it doesnt make a difference, it will all be corrected in a few minuets. and uless you buy the flashcomm server whats the point of saying that they have a good one, he just wants a server.
i agree though, the bigger the less they care. dr2 is nice and small and you get an answer almost as soon as you ask it.

You're correct, that's what everyone wants, and it's sad. They'll pay $50 for a T-Shirt at Abercrombie and Fitch instead of $9 for one at Wal-Mart, and they're all made overseas anyway.
Bandwidth is bandwidth, unless it's cogent. Hard drive is hard drive, unless it's 1GB.
And when you're on a smaller server like TNT, you get faster speeds because only a few people are hosted on it!

I just wish TNT could get a few customers so someone could make a testamonial about TNT so people would believe what great service TNT has.

No, so many people keep saying that TNT is "under construction" and I've asked for some help making one HTML template with a prize associated with it, but everyone just flames me.
But I think I have a couple people who might not flame me and try.

It's all about the name Mark, TNT at the moment does have much of one. ;)
It's not like i'm poor, I would rather pay much more for name brand then much less for something unknown.

I personally use Brinkster, which boasts some really good stuff, MT is just proven, and many people are not willing to venture off into the darkness, there are thousands of hosts out there....how to choose one. Everyone promises the moon and stars on their websites. The internet is no onger a play toy (well kinda) Alot of companies include web strategy in their business model so why trust it to someone un-proven? TNT may be the bomb....but no one is singing the Gospel of it yet. If you have windows and some good pricing Mark I have a new client that is looking for a hosting home. I will consider your company. Email me some white papers please. Nathan@implod.com
Mark it would help to get some folks on board and do some exchange of services type of deal to get your name out there is you are serious about surviving in hosting.

Thanks DDD. But again, I am not doing this as my "business" just to help pay for my server as a little thing on the side. I'm not looking for hundreds of clients, but just enough to pay the bills.
I'll deffitnelly email you tomorrow, I just got back from a TV broadcast gig type thing, and am a little tired.

Hmm.. Hosti9ng can be a pain.. But when you are a webdesigner and you own a webhost.. It makes everything sooo much easier to plan things out with clients.. ;)
I'd say, the smaller.. the better... But not too small as to where it doesn't have credibitlity and if a server goes down they dilly dally around because they don't have 100 clients on it.. :)

Just to bring back this thread a little, we now offer a free trial, for those of you who dont believe that we are as good as MT.
http://www.tntpowerhost.com/specials.html
That's the 1 week free trial of your own account, priority helpdesk support. The trial account is limited, but if you like it you can upgrade to a paid package without losing a single file/database entry.

Just by curiosity mark, is that a template you have on your site?

Yes it is claudio.
I am a bad web designer, but I guarantee my level of web design does not reflect the service I provide :P. I setup a little offer for who could make TNTPowerHost a simple HTML template, and they would get some free hosting, but I got flamed on various boards including this one. Everyone said that my package 3 free in exchange for a 20 minute fairly simple template design was rediculious, but.....
I might have someone taking me up on that offer though :).
