Hi all and Happy New Year!
I'm getting ready to active my domain at www.splinx.com with an all-new, all Flash site and I'm seeking a reliable, cheap (<$5/mo.) web hosting service. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
sp

Just remember the golden rule when it comes to hosting:
If it's too good to be true, it probably is.

Thanks for the replies, suggestions, words of caution. I would prefer register.com, since I got my domain through them, but they redirect to another outfit for domain hosting, and I wasn't that impressed with what I saw there. Same with the other suggestions offered here, except for racknine.com which offers 75 MB of storage and 1 GB of traffic for less than $35/yr, comparable to three other budget hosts I've been considering: lowcosthost.com, astrahosting.com and 2globalmart.com.
Racknine looking good: cheap, nice specs and a Kirupa.com user who might be able to provide help, offer tips, etc.
Well, I'm determined to do this by the end of the day, so any further comments will be highly appreciated.
Thanks again,
sp

Hey Phil,
I thought I was here. 'Just goes to show how time flies when you're havin' fun.
Seriously, it takes me forever to get things done, and in addition to coming up with a good design and easily maintainable structure for my new site, there is also the small matter of content.
Anything worthwhile takes time and energy. I'm just coming up on my first anniversary with Flash, and my progress has been uneven - still a long way to go, but I have adequate command of actionscript now to consider putting up a new site based on Flash to showcase some of my newer art, which includes not only Flash, but also 3D graphics (Max), illustration, photography, life drawing, and more. So many media, so little time.
iPowerweb looks good - great specs, and the distinct added advantage of having you and Jubba here to help, if needed. $96/yr is a little more than I've budgeted, but I'll give this host some consideration.
Thanks,
sp

OK, iPowerWeb it is. Two satisfied users on Kirupa.com were enough to tip the balance away from racknine.com suggested by Ahmed, and a couple of other bargain ($40/yr.) web hosts I was considering. Special thanks to Jubba and Phil for their winning suggestion.
back to work,
sp
