Okay at my wifes job, they have an IT guy that I think personally is a moron. Now mind you I am not the greatest PC technician. But here is the deal.

There is a computer that is running slow. Well just quickbooks is running slow.

The specs are.
1.2 ghz
256mb of RAM
40gb HD (5% used of it)
CD/DVD
64mb vid card (nothing special)

Well this guy says the only way this can be fixed is to get her a new computer. I told them to start by doing a disk clean up and a defrag. Then follow by checking to see if anything is running in the bgrd that need not be.

They want to fire him because he always takes the easy way out of stuff. I mean I know folks who would kill for those specs on a computer. And he said gettin rid of it and getting a new one is the only way to fix the problem.

What ya'll think?

well quickbooks is known to be a slow program
prolly a ram upgrade is needed
also look into getting a 7200rpm hd instead of the 5400rpm

my pos is right there with theirs...

1.7 w/32Meg vid card...

and I have to defrag quite often to optimize my efficiency...

I am using W2k, btw... and a prog called diskkeeper, which defrags at night while I'm not using the machine...

the report says I am increasing read time to my HD by 20% (now that could be propaganda too)...
