Ok this is carried on from the end of the last pixel battles vote because no one was paying attention to that one anymore lol =)

My idea for the theme of the next pixel battle is...

A Castle! :beam:

I know this is a complicated one which is why there should be a looooong deadline, I think it'll get some great entries if it has long enough. Although it seems quite a restrictive theme theres room for lots of variation :P

If the rules are agreed on ahead of time (which they often are) then how would it be unfair if she just finalized them and made them official? True it would be slightly unfair if the mod just made up the rules without consulting the other participants, but as long as the rules are set before hand then I don't see how it would be a problem.

I live in a place called Rainham, in Kent. It's near Gillingham - we've got a football team in the First Division, that's our only claim to fame. I work in Bromley though, which is just outside London.

And yeah, it is a great job. I'm the only web developer here, and no-one else knows exactly what I do, so I can pass off staying on kirupa.com all day as being 'research'. In my defence though, I do do a lot of work - Churchill own about 20 subsidiary companies, and they've all got their own sites for me to look after and tweak and change...

When I say cheating, I mean that I'm not drawing a whole castle. Mine is literally in ruins. That way I don't have to draw lots of fiddly bits. :)

Mak: I know, this one does look very weird... The sandcastle thing is pretty accurate, even though that's not what it was meant to look like. I don't think Soul is going to have much competition from this quarter. :) The whole ruins idea was good in theory, but in practice it looks... well, weird. (-:

I stuck it up on deviantART so I could stick it in an IMG tag and not have to attach it, and for once I've got loads of lovely comments on it. It even made the daily top favourites in that section! I'm amazed, I never realised there were quite so many pixel artists out there...

Just finished my fountain w. statue, two tents (complete with shadows, stripes, and holders + wires to hold it in place.

AND... a ****load of bushes everywhere...


In addition to that, I now have a front castle wall (with bricks), "trees" out front, railing, courtyard, grass, water (WITH ducks + duck-reflections), hedges, banners, flags (big + small) and two towers...

and I still need: Booths, people, animals, walkways, more tents, goods, food for the animals, toilets, and a bowling alley =)


I REALLY have my work cut out for me... geez... :sure:


Anyone frightened yet? Except Kit? :beam:

This is the time when I wish I'd come up with a better idea and was a better pixel artist. Damnit. Still, I'm going to try and claim a creative victory by my abandonment of the traditional 3D isometric view and lack of any skill whatsoever in my entry. Conventionality went out the window. I think that part of the point of a battle is to see which direction people take from being given the initial theme... So where you go from the word "Castle" is entirely up to you. Still, taking into account that I haven't seen anyone's except mine yet, my money is on Soul or Eilsoe as well... :P

I'm in and I'm done. It's only 295 x 199 pixels though, so miniscule compared to everyone elses! I'm nowhere near the pixel artist you guys are, so I steered clear of a huge 500 x 500 size canvas. Heaven alone knows how much trouble I had with the size I chose... :)
