Ok im just venting here...
I got a new job washing dishes two weeks ago.
My first day i worked 11 and a half hours.
My second day i worked 6 hours.
Now he has me working all weekend.
5-12am
I called him to tell him that i was not going to be able to work tonight because i have plans.
He told me that tonight is going to be busy and that i had to work.
I said that i blew off my friends to work last night.
He told me that he would like to hang out with friends but he cant.
He said that i should hang out with them on thrusdays.
---------------
Im only 16, i shouldnt devote my entire weekend to work.
I need to spend time with my friends, and be a normal teen.
----------
What should i do about this?
Im thinking about quitting.

Yes you are 16. You have to realize that this is how the workforce works. Now that you have an obligation, you have to allocate your time more. Don't quit your job just so you can be with your friends. Being with your friends doesn't bring in $$$. As a matter of fact, it most likely costs $$$ to be with your friends ;)
I know what you're going through though. One time I wanted to quit my job because I didn't want to get out of bed that one Saturday morning. Stick with your job. If you can show your boss that you'll be willing to devote most of your time at this place, he may give you a raise. Think about it.

yeah, but what is the point of getting a raise if you have no time to use the $?
aren't there laws about how long minors can work in a given week?

There must be other jobs around, try one of those.

life sucks.
this is life.
your freinds will get jobs soon as well.
deal with it. keep the job, look for another with more socially acceptable hours.

yepyepyep....
You've got your whole life to be a teen, but only if you can afford it :!:
...(some of the happiest kids I know are old PHarts in disguise ;) )
in another time, 16 would be considered quite done with childhood .. move on carefully - burning as few bridges as you can

the problem is that he never tells me when im working. He told me to call him tues, so i did. He wasnt there.
he finally called me at 3:30 friday to tell me that i was workingthat night at 6.
Last night at 11 i found out that i was working at 5 today.
this is after i already made plans for tonight...
this is what makes me mad...

I don't know about where you are, but where I am there is a law that says if a person is in school their job cannot ask for more than 20 hours a week maximum (15 hours is standard), anything after that is not allowed.
So if you haven't worked 20 hours yet (if it's like this where you are), your job can schedual you to be in whenever they want.

Alex: a job is a job, if you don't like it, then simply don't work and be a bum like my friend joe. :)
I know all about working on weekend nights. i did vallet for 3 years throughout college to support myself. so i have absolutly n sorrow for you :)

Yep, what they all said.
But I am pretty sure once you turn 16 you can work long hours (over 20). But that dosent matter, if you have to work , then work, if once you go to you next job, your boss says good things about you the better.

Depends on your area, I don't think this law applies everywhere. And it is only if you are in school, you can be 16 and work more than 20 hours if it is a summer job or something. Or if you are a drop out, but good luck getting hired then ;)
