thanks =) Yeah, I changed it to random today. I also added a shadow-like effect to the text kirupa.com (it looks raised now). Shocked that nobody noticed that :(

Nah, probably not. The random colors are simply swf files called by the main header file. For example, the URL of one the color movies is: http://www.kirupa.com/random/c2.swf

Replace the 2 in c2 with a number from 1 - 9 to see the other colors. There is a tutorial someplace for using loadMovie.

Hey Kirupa... why didn't you use a random color code instead?


Like have different shades of blocks on one layer, then a solid colors shape above that with a lowered opacity so it changes the hue of the blocks under it.

Then just use Ilyas' random color code in the AS Tricks section to change the color of the clip above the blocks.


It would save you .swf files and give you a wider variety of colors.

That sounds like a good idea! I can make it so that once one color has been randomly generated, that color can be modified slightly to create the different shades for the other little blocks. I think I found out what I will be doing tomorrow =)

I finished the new banner. When you refresh the page, you will see a new, truly random color each time. I used ilyas's techique found here: http://www.kirupa.com/developer/actionscript/tricks/randomcolor.asp
