I have been lookign at some sites:

I am trying to pull out the flower effect they have on their front page. How ill I go about this? I am just a novice so pleas ebe detailed in explanations etc.

For the first site, if you're referring to those lil white dots that's flying around the flower, that could be achieved with actionscript or tweens and motion guides.

For the second site, that effect is just some masks. Here's a tutorial to start you off for that.

I'm sorry, I misunderstood.

The effects on those flowers are done with a combination of layer blends and filters.

There's no exact way of doing it, it's just trial and error till you achieve the look you want.

Use stock photos of flowers in Photoshop, and do these things electrongeek mentioned.
