Well after getting valuable feedback from this forum, I went ahead and made a new layout to start off the new year. Please take a look and tell me what you think, thanks in advance. =)

The splash page looks cool :smirk:
It's that girl from "dark angels" ay?
I like the futuristic effect. Tell me when it's finished.
Did you do some tutorials from www.phong.com?
Anyway you sight rocks definitely.

Yup, that's Jessica Alba from Dark Angels, she's a hottie!! haha And you're right about Phong.com, I did most of the tutorials on there, it's one of my favorite tutorial sites. As for your site, I'll post a comment on the thread you posted it on earlier. Thanks for the comments.

No words can do justice to the beauty of Jessica Alba! :P
Wow electrongeek! I must say the redesign rocks!
I like the way the gallery is organized. It's all laid out and very easy (for me) to go through. I also like the consistent font usage and the good use of color.
One thing though: the font is a very small and I can barely read it.

Thanks Ren, it's all thanks to the feedback I recieved from this forum, it has made it possible for me to see things I normally wouldn't have seen on my own. As for the text, sorry if it's so small, I wanted to use a pixel font and that's the best one I've found, it's actually Eilsoe's, haha so thanks goes out to him. =)
Thanks for the comment ahmed, I'll try to add more artwork soon. I'm taking a break from designing for now since this new layout burned me out. ;(

LOL, thanks Dave, I tend to get bored of things quick and my other layout got old quick so it had to go. Since I have all this free time, I might as well put it to good use. As for the doors, they're nothing too complicated, it's just an image I sliced into 2 piecies and tweened to open and close inside a MC of it's own. When I load the external movie, the door MC is activated to close and on the external movie, I have an action on the first frame that targets the door MC to open. As for my backgrounds, they're all Cinema 4D and Photoshop. I'm glad you like the music too hahah. :P

Well, I already told you what I thought over AIM, but I will still say it here.
I think it is great. The colors and the layout is great, and the animations run smooth on my comp. And I see you bumped the quality of the images up as per my suggestion, it looks much better and smoother now :)
And Holy Shmokers, I didn't realize I made it into your links section.... THANKS MAN!!!!!!

Nicely done. I can't say much that hasn't been said above...
Nice Indeed.
smooth (kinda choppy on my POS), intuitive, appealing...
the only thing is that I don't like the auto-scroll on the gallery...
Just being real fussy, but I think it detracts from your art...
Beautiful site...

Thanks for the input Rev, I was a bit sketchy on the scrolling on the gallery too, some of my art work is pretty big and I wanted to show all of it. I didn't want to resize the artwork to make it fit so I used the scroller, maybe I should have buttons so the viewer can manually scroll it? I know my site isn't your style, but thanks for commenting on it anyways. =)

I admit I was skeptical, thinking I knew what to expect...
You overcame my preconceived notions, with your ease of use.
As far as my style, everyone has one, and this one shows yours very well. I would be very proud to have produced this site.
As far as your artwork, just give the option to see the image in full size/all at once...
Again, well done.

I'm sorry, but I didn't understand that, what do you mean?

Well, judging by the stuff you have posted in the past, I kinda thought it would be more showey, more gratuitious animation... I mean like the transitions, and how you get from point a to point b.
As soon as I got into the site, I forgot about the transitions, which, in my opinion, is excellent useability. Most futuristic styled sites are difficult to maneuver.
I hope that explains it.

ohhhhhh I understand now, well I've learned a lot since my last layout and I took my time on this new one making sure the navigation was easy, but yet stylish and effective. Also that's a great idea with what you said about giving the viewer the option to see the artwork in full, I can make a flash type of pop up showing the artwork in full and give the viewer the ability to close it when they're done looking at it. Thanks again for the input. =)

The front page is very cool, but it took my PC quite a while to load it, and this thing is superfast. I would have liked to have seen the Enter button do something when I rolled over it, but that's just me.
Once you're in there though, it's a lovely little interface you've designed. I like the plasma-type picture at the top, very nice colours. I like the way the specifications for new projects print themselves, it's a nice touch. So is the 'door' opening and closing while each section loads.
I also enjoyed the fact that you can interact with the little animations at the top of some of the pages.
I'm with Ren in that I love the gallery - especially the pic of the Ferrarri, I've always had a weak spot for them.
Only things that I'd comment on in a negative way are the size of the text (someone mentioned that earlier) and the loading bar. With that, my gripe is that I'd prefer a bar that told me how the load was progressing. The current one doesn't tell me how far through a picture is, if you see what I mean.

January 3rd, 2003, 12:32 PM
Thanks for the comments Kit, I will definitely try to fix some of the flaws you mentioned. I have a sucky host so my site doesn't load as fast sometimes so I aploligize for that. As for my preloader, I will switch to a percentage displaying one as soon as I figure out how to incorporate it to my set up, it's a little tricky. ;(

I´ll not bother you with little suggestions, and pinpoint of little mistakes...
...cause there are NONE!:P
:!: Wow man, what a cool site! very unique and smooth. It is possible that it can have some little problems, but I´m still in love with your site to point them, ya know, love is blind :crazy:
I can understand what rev said, I too thought that I´ve seen your best, but now I see tha I´ve seen nothing.
What else can I say? Congrats man :A+: site!

I visited again, and it was super slow.
But I won't hold that against you, because all the other times I visited it, it loaded and I barely even got to see the preloader, it was quick. But the last time it was incredibly slow, but that is not your fault, so I won't hold it against you.

me.dropJaw();
Wow, e-geek. That is a major improvement over your last iteration...and I viewed it with only 256 colours! My only suggestion is for your logo thingy (the sphere with your name around it). I would recommend doing that in C4D (or XSI...you said you're working in XSI now, right?) as right now it's obvious it's a P-Shop trick (unless, of course, your aim wasn't for the text to wrap around the sphere). I really love the artwork in the top "frame"...when are you gonna spit out a tutorial on how you do that stuff?
me.resetJaw();
me.clearDrool("keyboard");

Thanks alethos, yea I could of made the sphere in Cinema as well, but since I was working in Photoshop most of the time with this layout, I'd thought I'd stick with the same program. The only thing that's Cinema 4D on the site are the backgrounds. As for tutorials, I'm still working on them, it's been a slow process cause I've never written tutorials before so please bare with me.

pretty neat site..=)
2 small things.. you should disable your button after a click.. because if you keep clicking the button. it'll replay the transition over and over..
also. you should make those links a real link.. so it'll redirect the viewer to whichever site
.. just a thought..
(just incase you don't know how. [ buttonname.enabled = false; ]
eyeinfinitude
January 10th, 2003, 01:09 AM
Thanks for that tip, I forgot about it. Let me ask you this, using your script, if the button is disabled once it's pressed, how would I enable it again?
slayerment
January 10th, 2003, 01:54 AM
i just noticed that on ur transition the top thing closes over the content fine but the bottom one turns black then closes rather than just closing over the actual content.

January 10th, 2003, 01:59 AM
Thanks Slayerment, I know about that, I'm in the process of correcting that and the button issue stated above. =)
enyceexgloboi
January 10th, 2003, 04:33 AM
buttonName.enabled=true;
so let's say you have 3 buttons..
on the 1st one it'll be :
on (press){
this.button1.enabled=false;
this.button2.enabled=true;
this.button3.enabled=true;
}
on the 2nd button :
on (press){
this.button2.enabled=false;
this.button1.enabled=true;
this.button3.enabled=true;
}
etc.etc.. blahblah.. you get the point. =)
enyceexgloboi
January 10th, 2003, 04:44 AM
and also.. another suggestion.. when you rollOver the menu buttons.. that white rectangular thing that fades out... I think you can do without. Maybe.. just have the text change color?..
or better yet.. make it glow.. that might be better..
just a suggestion =)
eyeinfinitude
January 10th, 2003, 01:42 PM
Thanks enyceexgloboi, originaly the buttons did glow, but it was very graphic intensive so I switched to the rectangles, but I'll see what I can do, thanks again for the input. =)

hmz... em... the only thing i can say is.... :A+:
Mr. X
January 10th, 2003, 07:11 PM
usability:
- definitly should add "scroller" buttons for your artwork. The "thumbnails" could be less general and give a little info on what you're about to click on.
- when you click on a different music track, the play/pause buttons desapear while it's loading...
design: I love the 3d/PS backgrounds in the top window. Very nice! But the somewhat bulky metal UI get in the way (of my personal own taste ;) ). I feel it could be done better, especially after looking at those backgrounds. Maybe you could use C4D to build the UI? Even the reflection on the music player buttons is not very well done... Just my personal opinion again...
Good job! :)
eyeinfinitude
January 10th, 2003, 07:18 PM
Thanks for the input mr. x, I'll keep those suggestions in mind when making future versions. =)
