another photoshop 7 question

these problems keep comming and i can't fixing so sorry if i'm being annoying heh :)

so i was wondering how you make a picture (no effects no nothing), blend into the background...

so say the picture is white and the background is black...i want the edges of the picture to gradually blend in with the black background so everything is smooth and everything...

hope this is easy, any ideas? thx

Use the square marquee tool on the area you want "preserved"


Go to Select/Inverse

Then go to Select/Feather and set the number to how much you want (try 10 or something to start).


Press the delete key on your keyboard to delete the area.
