<a href="http://www.autowraps.com/dynwrap.htm"> DAB </a>

My brother and I developed this addition to an existing site to enable the browser to upload their own images to a mock-up of thier own car.

We utilized ASP to connect an Access db to the DAB, so that the client could collect info. We published in Flash4 to gain the widest useabilily. We used Generator 2 to ensure each instance would not be cached.

In the end, you can print, email, and refer back to the DAB you created when you ask for a quote.

I am in the process of adding 10 more (dynamic) categorized menus, so when you choose a stock image, there are more selections.

Thanks everyone, in advance, for your time and consideration,

Revhttp://www.aulman.com/rev.gif

post a screen capture of your wrap... this should be fun...

my email is in my profile

You're kidding me...
almost 30 views, and not one comment?

Not even a screen capture of someone's wrap?

I entered a different site a couple months ago, and Pom was the only one to comment on it (even he only said "nice, professional site).

I realize my sites aren't full of wizzy AS, or look like a video game, but I think they at least deserve the comments of the people who are obviously viewing them.

I know people are visiting them, I can see them in the stats...

Whats up?

greetings Rev.
I went thru ur website and i think its very innovative .. and its really good.. well, may not be with lot of flash or jazzy contents but its something which is very well conceptualized. I think u have done a gr8 job. I havent desinged a site myself yet but I think i can judge one if i see a decent one .. and i think u have a very user friendly site.. i would prefer some thing like this than something done on flash with no user friendly interface..
great job... :cowboy:

Hey Rev

This is great addition to autowraps. I checked this site out a couple years ago because I like the idea to get $400 bucks a month to drive my car around and get paid for it. I played with this for hours with some good fun!! I'm impressed!

Thanks guys.

I'm a real big believer of usability, and I can't stand "animation for animation's sake." Just because we can make something move, doesn't mean we should make it move.

I'm currently adding 20 categories, so that when you use the stock images, you will have a choice of over 350 to choose from. Then I am also converting this from Generator to MX, as well. All in all I will be working with Autowraps for quite a while, I hope...

It is cool! Those pictures are awesome! Where did you get it??

I like the site, and the idea. But I don't really understand the concept?

And here goes the first car!
I like it a bit

Autowraps is a company out of NY, NY, which "wraps" your car in an advertisement about your business, or can wrap a fleet of cars which drive around Manhattan during rush hours, etc.

His business is exploding, and we are developing all kinds of fun new stuff, including kiosks for retail stores...

The images are supplied by the client, I think he gets most of them from Getty Images, since they can be purchased in Hi res, fairly cheaply.

I must say it is cool, but i'm not sure if it is cool enough for site of the week.

The scripting musn't been easy but I think the design could be better?

Sorry :-\

Peace

that's fine, everyone is welcome to their opinion. I think it stands up there with the sotw, but that is my opinion. This site just doesn't move, and utilizes a portion of Flash that nobody here understands (Generator), so there may be a bit that goes on behind the scenes that gets lost to most people (such as the fact that your browser does not cache any of the files, it reads new info every time the file is requested... guaranteed... so your info/images will not appear on anyone else's computer screen).

Just curious tho, in what way would you change the design? The client supplied all of the artwork, and I did not have a lot of leeway (since the main site is soooo busy).

thanks for the input,

I get an "Error on Page" icon in the bottom corner of IE when I click on the link to pop up the window.

that's weird, I don't see it at all. I will have to confer with my brother and fix that... if I can find it...

so the link in the first part of this thread doesn't work, or the popup on autowraps.com doesn't work? I'm not sure which you are speaking of...

Ok, I noticed it pops up when you load the page. Last time it would give me a 404 error inside, but now it works.

The link to launch the window still doesn't work though.

Anywho.... Nice site, and nice little autowraps program too.

One problem about the autowraps wrapper thing, the first line of text that comes in seems to go past its destination point and then jump back into position, this looks funky to me.

And if you select "Orange" as the first color, it changes it to black on the car.

reverendflash
December 15th, 2002, 04:08 AM
You would pick the only color that doesn't work...

I don't know why, but I am working on a new version, so I've already stopped correcting the version I just finished...

I just received the authorization to add a pickup, and a honda civic to the design as well. The new version 2 will have a much more console/gamer kind of look to it.

thanks for taking a look at it...

It turns black on them all except the last two, the long van and the truck thing. (not a car person...lol).

Hey Rev, you said in one of the first posts that the files where not cached by the users. Could you tell us how you did that? I'm curious :beam:

reverendflash

Sure Ilyas:

The current DAB (I am redoing it in MX) is done with Generator2...

Gen2 utilizes both .swf's and .swt's (Generator Templates). If I call a swt from an HTML page, it will automatically check the text file to get the values for the variables, then create the swf on the fly. Since it creates the swf on the fly, it can be set to "not cache" the info.

This is one of the reasons I love Generator (If MX hadn't come out, everyone would be bugging me about it)... It is a great technology, just not supported anymore... :*(

Reverend... this is your business. Right? Or, it's in your family or something like that?

I'd like to talk to you about it.
