Lostinbeta's Journey to a Pixel Apartment

Well, the ongoing trend of pixel art here at kirupaforum has inspired me to get into it. I tried once before for like 5 minutes, hated it, so I never tried again. I then found out how much patience it took, and figured that is why I couldn't do it before. I got up the nerve and tried it again.

What I was shooting for is to do something for a link that mdipi had posted up in another thread. That link was to http://www.mrwong.de/myhouse/index.htm where I viewer can draw up and submit their own pixel apartment. This sounded incredibly fun to me and gave me more inspiration to start in this trend.

Well, this thread is going to follow my progression throughout my experience. The result shown below is the result of quite some times work last night and this morning.

Oh yeah, and this is my first attempt at Pixel Art... well besides the one that lasted like 5 minutes before I gave up.

btw! Why is the "S" in the text "lostinbeta.com" like that?
Actually for some guy who sees it for the 1st time that doesn't look like an S! well... whatever COOL!

The "S" is like that because I couldn't draw a decent looking "S"...lol. The amount of pixels I chose for each letter didn't work to well with the "S", and I wasn't about to redo the whole thing because of one letter, so I just jazzed it up a bit...lol. That whole word is drawn, none of it is a font, and I had an incredibly hard time doing that part.

The shine on the windows is just carefully drawn white strips with a very low opacity.

I got used to changing footer every once in a while... Actually I hate my footer that have been here over 2 weeks or so...
there's nothing wrong with other's footers though...

LOL, ok. If that is what you like to do. I like your current footer. I mess with it when I get bored sometimes... I just sit here and rollover the letters to see what cool patterns I can make :)...lol.

2. it says "Kirupa Footer with ease and random speed"

Hey mdipi.... that cd key thing would be illegal... and you know where kirupaforum stands on illegal things like that. Kirupa already threatened someone else for giving out out a cd key.

And your footer doesn't have random speed for me, it doesn'te ven ease anymore. I did earlier, but now it just jumps there. So I refresh for a new speed and click and it disappears. Maybe once or twice it actually eased there.

I guess no one else cares about the original topic of this thread :P

well see lost, i bought the game, but somehow my CD key dont work, so i was wondering, since he stoped playing... but i get the point. and its random speed, so when you reloaded i could have been zero...now it has random color too!

can i get it so it excludes certan #s?

You should contact the company and find out what the problem is. It might be a conflict with Windows XP, I have heard a few things about that happening. If that is the case, you should contact the company and find out what to do.

Well with some numbers it makes it go off screen and when you click it never shows up again.

You can use if statements like
if (speed == 0){
speed = 1;
}

LOL, don't worry. We won't ban you, just letting you know. Naliwarcows had a similar problem a few days ago, with a different game though, but he just lost his cd key. We gave him the same advice.

Ok, here is what I have now. I added some furniture so it didn't look like I was poor and could only afford one sofa :-\ :beam:

I have no clue yet....lol. I want to complete the first floor first before I start giving myself ideas about a second floor.

I just opened up Photoshop... zoomed in all the way.... and started coloring. The end result is what you see in this thread.


This is the first pixel art thing I did, and I didn't follow a tutorial or anything. The process is going very slow because I have to keep guessing and checking my line angles and such...lol.

Ok, I resized my carpet to fill the room better. Boy did this take forever. For some reason the colors just were not working out. I have no clue why but I would just be coloring and it would go for dark blue to bright sky blue... out of nowhere... so I had to readjust the color for that area to get it right.

ARGH.

Well, to compensate for the carpet, I gave myself a large flat screen tv :evil:

I also did I few very minor adjustments here and there. It is done on a pixel level, so they probably aren't noticeable...lol.

btw: Mine is sometimes in use. some ****head is using it, but i don't play cs anymore!

The thing holding the flowers doesn't look like pixel art.

The grey top and bottom doesn't either.

The stereo kinda does, but kinda doesn't.

But it doesn't matter I was just joking, it says nowhere in the rules that it had to be pixel art... some of them in there aren't pixel art, but I just like being annoying like that :P

Yes, you are anoying, but you are correct, I did use gradients, and I did use a vector'd texture (nothing is raster'd in this version)...

this is the first "art" of this type I have tried...

Kinda fun... in a masochistic way...

I wouldn't want to do an entire city...

Some of those on Mr. Wong's site are incredible and creative...

I'm having a tough time doing the rug I want...

Yeah, this is my first shot at this pixel art thing too.

I have times where I sooo just want to grab the line tool, or something un-pixely..lol, but I hold myself back and keep clicking away...

click,click,click,click,click,click,click.

Then I come up with something...lol. It takes me forever to get something to look right because perspective is really hard for me to get right now, I am getting used to it though... slowly.

Try making your pictures in mspaint... Use the line tool there its much more easy! Or at least that's what I use... :)

yes it is pixle by pixle :( its time consoming...but if you want the line to make sure anti-alising is off...

Yes, pixel by pixel is how I draw my lines.

Then I use the paint bucket tool to paint in areas... so that is helpful :)

The apartment shoul be draw pixel by pixel, not using pics and effects is PS or whatever.

That way is not pixel art, is digital art.

PS: Lost and Kit appartments is the only pixel art here.

Ok, well I took like 2 days off and decided to work on more of my apartment. This isn't after much time because Photoshop was using up a lot of my system resources so I could only work on it for a little.

I added an upstairs, and started a bedroom in one of the upstairs rooms, this so far has a bed and a night stand.

I also changed one of the plants to be a lamp.

I was doing a bathroom, before I realized that a bathroom in a room with a gigantic window is something I would NEVER want...lol. Besides, I messed up on part of it, so with those two factors I canceled out bathroom...lol.

Don't leave Lost! Your awsome! Really, when I first came here, you were the one that answered my stupid AS questions. And then you inspired me to dig out my old Photoshop 6 disk and re-install. Thanks to you, I'm starting on PS. Your great man, really. An inspiration to me. Seriously.
Great work on the pix art. Someone *cough*lost or rev*cough* should start a battle for all to enter, due maybe in a month or something for pix art. Anybody can enter, and we could all post within a day or so near the end. Waddya say?

btw, later we could all make specifications for room size, etc, or before the battle for that matter, and build a Kirupaville tower... :) This could be really fun...!

I hate working with individual pixels... Always using some sort of method to getting around that.

Makes me wonder... I could probably make a thing like that chat one out of flash totally. pretty good with data transfers into text files and back into flash...
