pixel battle

Anyone down for a pixel art battle?? From the same view point as the one I posted in "drawing and design"

... I wouldn't know what the theme would be... possibly some architectural design theme??? That would be for the mods to decide. Well I'll be gone all weekend, but ready to start come Mon. I'd like to keep this very open so as many people as possible give it a shot.... oh and for the mods: give it a decent amount of time, as this stuff can take a while!!

Please join in, it'll be fun - Cant wait to see what happens with this when I get back on Sun.

This does sound interesting. I tried my hand at pixel art the other day, I am doing an apartment at www.mrwong.de , mdipi posted the link. It is time consuming indeed, and very hard (for me at least). I don't think I will be participating, but I will make sure there is ample time to complete a piece.

ok people I'm back and ready to start this (BTW my car rocks, it is so bad *** - so damn fast I cant believe it...I'll post some shots soon) - once the mods decide on the rules (I must stress again that there is more time needed for a pixel battle than with others... hmm plus with the holiday on the way)... as for the topic... well I am partial to some sort of arcitectural theme, but I would be open to anything creative - although I definitly would like to stay away from the standard "room view" (ie indoor setting - I feel it removes a bit from creative possibilities)... anyone else have any further input??

What are the rules on using color? Are we supposed to fill in color a few pixels at a time or can we use paint bucket?

If it is a solid fill, then go for the paint bucket. No need to waste time filling in pixel by pixel when you won't be able to tell the difference in the end.

Ok lost, i was going to use some gradient fills, but i guess that instead of useing the tool, ill use a large pencil at low opacity for when i need that.

truthfuly opacity changes wouldnt be right, instead you should try and fill the pixel are with the approx color that would be produced (if you used different op settings)... but in the end it doesnt really matter :P

hey mods... just looking to possibly bend the rules... I think the 400 X 400 is a good size limit (160,000 total pixels)), could I make mine say 150 px high and 1000 wide (150,000 total... which is under max pixels) - would this be ok with everyone??? If not I can understand, but I have to ask.

An answer ASAP would be greatly appreciated!!

I agree Syko, but technically it is byond the 400 X 400 dimensions (just not over the total pixel size).... hopefully a mod will bless this and I can continue with my idea! :P

I guess since I set the first rules on this one I'd better intervene and set the record straight.

I originally said 400 x 400 as I thought that would be a reasonably achieveable size in the time limit and didn't want you to all have a panic attack under your desks. But I'm flexible with this.

Ryall, if you want to make yours 150 x 1000, then that's cool. In fact, to be fair, I'll say that the dimensions of your image should be under a total of 160,000 pixels. Then you can warp the height and width to your satisfaction.

I know pixel art is difficult and painstaking, so let's not make it impossible too. :)

I vote change too... in fact I was just coming to this thread to say that I'd have to forfeit, because there is no way between my work, the holidays and an unfortunate family episode a few days ago that I would be able to have something ready.

I might have to forfeit anyway though - if you change it to the 28th that is. I am going to be leaving for Arizona for the holiday and wont get back till the 29th - then New Years shortly after! I"ll let you all decide, because I am the one with the life that went nuts! If I can make the date you decide I'm definitly in, if not... I'll start a new pixel battle after the New Year so I can participate in something.... just post what you guys think...

I don't have a problem with anyone wishing to join, as long as they tell me about it and their entry is submitted before the deadline, which indeed <i>has</i> been extended. I'll make it to Sunday the 29th December, which gives you all the whole weekend of that week, to be fairer. I know how long pixel art can take. :)

If anyone participating in this battle can leave a small post underneath this one to confirm their intent, we should all be set.

but that thing on my computer is driving me crazy:crazy: , everyone here says that it happens very often on asus mother boards, and you just have to use a usb keyboard to fix it. I bought a usb keyboard, but it works only on startup and bios enviroment, when the comp. starts the windows 2000 it crashes. I can´t study at home, I can´t design at home, and the worst: I cant post here at home!:*(

OK OK, So I am 2 and a half hours past the deadline. I am SOOOO sorry about this, I never meant for it to happen.

I got sideswiped by family and friends and had to scramble tonight to finish this.


My original idea kicked arse and contained all four seasons, but due to family and friend problems I didn't have as much time to invest in this as I had hoped so I narrowed it down to one season... winter.


I really would have liked to add more detail and more items to this, but they just were not working out for me, I tried, and wasted a lot of my timeon them, which is why I scrambled last minute to finish it up. I shoulda worried about them when I was done everything else.


Anywho... here is my Pixel Battle entry......

PS: I showed this to some people and they didn't believe it was all done pixel by pixel... but it was, I assure you. I used the 1px pencil tool in Photoshop for this. Well, the snow I did a bit differently, but it is still pixels, they are not anti aliased or anything like that.
